It is with deep and profound sympathy that we announce the transition of Mr. Joseph Benjamin McKie who entered into rest March 26, 2024.
Mr. McKie, a native of Aiken County, was a 1971 graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School and Augusta Technical College where he earned an Associates Degree in Welding. He was employed by Claussen Road Construction, working as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
At an early age, he accepted the Lord and was baptized at Old Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Benjamin (Denise) McKie, III; a daughter, Melissa Doughtry; two sisters, Pauline Heard and Brenda A. McKie; sister-in-law, Kathy McKie; four grandchildren, Rodasha Walker, Joseph Benjamin McKie, IV, Benjamin Williams and Lawson Day; one aunt, Marijean Jennings; one uncle, Dawud (Daaimah) Rasheed; a special friend, Linda Brooks; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Thursday, April 4, 2024 at G. L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Teresa Jennings officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 2 pm until 5:30 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
